Develop an Abundance Mindset for a Happy Life + 10 Abundance Mindset Quotes
Abundance. One of my favorite words. Around here, we love to yell “Abundance!” and high five each other when something good happens. That’s because, over the past few years, we’ve learned to develop an abundance mindset for a happy life. You can develop and an abundance mindset, too.
Why do we do this – focus on having an abundance mindset so much? Because an abundance mindset can help make you happier. I know. It sounds “woo-woo.” But it works. Hang with me for a minute, because I want to share how it can help.

Until a few years ago, I understood very little about the importance of mindset. I had no clue just how much our thoughts and mindset play into our lives.
In my early 20’s, my then-boyfriend harped on me to read “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale. It’s an old book, but it gives great advice. And while I actually applied some of those learning to my everyday life, it didn’t really stick.
I was mostly a glass-half-empty kind of gal. You wouldn’t know it from talking to me. I seemed happy and self-assured. But inside, I was terrified of things going wrong, making mistakes and operated from a place of fear.
But these days, I feel much more empowered since learning how to transform my mindset, focusing on an abundance mindset rather than a scarcity mindset.
From money to success, stress-management, and relationships, mindset is a big deal. Your mindset can drastically affect your life.
What you think about, you bring about. It’s true.
[mailerlite_form form_id=4]What is an Abundance Mindset?
An abundance mindset means that basically, you believe there is enough for everyone; resources, success, and money. Having an abundance mindset enables you to open up to possibility, creativity, and opportunities.
On the other hand, a scarcity “mentality” is just the opposite. It’s when you hold limiting beliefs, thinking there’s never enough, and that anything good you do currently have will likely slip through your fingers.
I understand that is a challenging concept to get your head around if it’s new to you. I can relate. I’ve been there.
Also, we don’t live in a perfect world and sometimes it can seem like wealth, prosperity and resources are unbalanced. I get that, too.
I’m not an expert and I don’t have all the answers. I can only say that I have seen how shifting from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset in my own life has altered our lives here at home on more than one occasion.
How to Develop an Abundance Mindset
You can begin to develop an abundance mindset with a few simple changes.
Pay attention to your thoughts. Be mindful of your patterns. If you notice you are having negative thoughts – don’t judge yourself. Just make a conscious effort to shift your thinking from negative/lacking to positive/abundance. Reframe the negative thought into a positive one.
Watch your words. Believe it or not, the words we say to ourselves and others, matters. They matter a lot. You probably say things on a daily basis out of habit that is shaping your reality. Do you say things like “I’m always broke.” “I can’t catch a break.” How about, “I’m always late?”
Stop it. Stop it right now. Always ask yourself this question. “Are your words ones of scarcity or abundance?”
Focus on what is going right. Even when they aren’t. Listen, things happen. I’m not trying to say that things won’t go wrong. They most definitely will. But how you respond can either keep you stuck in a negative pattern or pull you out of it.
Do you notice how when you have a day that starts off a little rough? And it seems to keep going from bad to worse? That’s when you have to stop and make a concerted effort to change your energy.
When you find yourself spiraling into negativity, stop. Grab a journal and make a list of everything you love about life. There is always something to be grateful for. Pull up YouTube and watch funny cat videos. Look up your favorite comedian on Facebook. Something, anything, to shift your mood.
Show gratitude for everything good in your life. When you really stop and think about all of the good things, even the smallest things, you’ll start to feel better. If you can focus on the good, you get more good.
As Tony Robbins said, “When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.”
Examples of an Abundance Mindset
Expressing Gratitude for Everything
One example of an abundance mindset is expressing gratitude, as I mentioned earlier. Be grateful for everything. Even if your house isn’t your dream home. It’s a roof over your head. Be grateful.
Maybe you don’t have the most up-to-date fashion in your closet. Do you have clothes to wear? Yes? Be grateful.
You might not be able to afford going out to eat every week. But is there food on your table every day? If so, be grateful.
I would go so far as to show gratitude for a sunny day, a spring rain, a detour on the way to work, a super chatty co-worker, and even the person who hands you your bag of food through the drive-thru.
I’m serious. Feel gratitude for everything, including the things you never really think about.
Seeing Opportunity In All Things
An abundance mindset also means looking for opportunities in all situations.
Here’s a recent example. Several months ago, I wrote about getting a job and then quitting the job because it wasn’t right for me.
But then just a few months ago, I interviewed for a job that I actually wanted. I mean, I really wanted this job. I felt like it was a great fit for a great company. It was work I thought I would enjoy and the thought of being part of something again excited me. My background was a match. I loved the people I interviewed with.
Guess what? I didn’t get the job.
I’m not gonna lie. It stung. I was really bummed. But here’s the thing. I chose to see it as an opportunity to do something different.
It was the opportunity to continue having more time with Little B. More time to write. More time to do some things I’ve been wanting to do. And who knows, maybe there is a different opportunity waiting, it’s just not time yet. Learn to see the opportunity in everything.
[mailerlite_form form_id=6]Keeping Good Company
You know what they say….birds of a feather flock together. So be selective about who you spend time with and who talk to. Believe it or not, mindsets are contagious!
Don’t let energy vampires suck you dry. Limit your time with the glass-half-empty-people. You become what you surround yourself with and who you hang out with. Don’t let the Eeyores of the world bring you down.
Giving More
That’s right. And that’s a hard one for a lot of people. I struggle with it sometimes, too. We try to give as much as we can. Even when it’s hard. We give because we are grateful for what we have and it reminds us to have faith that we will always have more than enough.
Having grown up with a scarcity mindset, it’s been really difficult for me to embrace the concept of giving. It’s been hard for me to let go of money, time, and resources.
I have learned, though, that giving of myself, my time, and my money, actually creates more abundance…but only when I give with sincere gratitude.
My journey in understanding abundance and maintaining an abundance mindset is still relatively new. But I do know this: An abundance mindset is about attracting good things in life and then sharing those good things. It entails being comfortable with receiving and giving.
While it can feel strange at first, (and okay, maybe a little woo-woo and weird,) it’s very possible to see positive changes in your life when you start making these small changes.
